Dave Jones Stratospheric @TheCafé

Critically acclaimed Welsh keyboardist/composer Dave Jones and his newest band ‘Stratospheric’ play their own exciting brand of jazz-influenced progressive rock. The material is original Prog Rock, played by a line-up who are essentially jazz musicians that work in a broad range of musical styles.

‘Stratospheric’ has a great line-up (in fact more of a pool of musicians who share the gigs) including those musicians who were involved in recording at the very start of this project, alongside those who joined later for the first live performances in 2026. Between them all, their other work has seen them involved in performing/recording with e.g. Portishead, Jethro Tull, Toyah, Kasabian, Goldfrapp, and the late great rock and jazz session bassist Herbie Flowers.

The track ‘Trepidation/74 Heist’ from the new ‘Stratospheric’ vinyl album recently won Prog magazine’s ’Tracks of the Week’ feature, and the album has attracted great reviews in both the same magazine and in the online magazine ‘Jazz Views’, explaining the music from two different viewpoints.

Dave has composed a great deal of other music, both for his own jazz ensembles and for solo piano, and also for tv and film, having tracks used worldwide in productions for major networks, including e.g. The Big Bang Theory, news and current affairs programmes in Japan and Europe, and lifestyle programmes in the UK, alongside films including the Hollywood movie ‘Nuremberg’ (2026) with his piano piece ‘Paradise Found’.
